Manuel Álvarez Bravo House-Archive
The Manuel Álvarez Bravo House-Archive (MAB House) is home to the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Association, A.C., founded in 2005, and the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Archive, S.C., founded in 2011. The mission of both organizations is to preserve, research, and promote the legacy of Don Manuel and of Colette Urbajtel, his third wife.
Alongside its mission to preserve and make known Don Manuel’s legacy, MAB House seeks to convey to it’s visitors a living memory of the atmosphere, objects, and furnishings of what was the photographer’s home and studio during the last forty years of his life, which he shared with Colette Urbajtel and his two youngest daughters.
The building was designed and constructed in 1955 by the architect José de la Vega at the artist’s request as a private residence and personal studio. From 2021 to 2023, the house was renovated by the architect Brígida Recamier Díaz de León to be converted into the Manuel Álvarez Bravo House-Archive.
